Many of the challenges the cancer and wider non communicable disease (NCD) community must tackle are so complex, or at such scale, that individual organisations or even individual societal sectors cannot hope to tackle them alone. For complex issues, it is only through an ‘all of society’ approach, bringing together the different competencies and resources, social capital and reach of all societal sectors, that many issues can be tackled.

r the past year, TPI has been collaborating with both the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and Bupa, developing a programme to jointly drive partnership action against chronic disease.
Together they produced a guidebook, Better together: Unleashing the power of the Private Sector to tackle Non-Communicable Diseases – A guidebook to collaboration between Non-Profit Organisations and the Private Sector, which will be launched on Monday 6th February 2017 at 12:00 GMT – Register here!
In addition, TPI developed an online training course on cross-sector partnering against NCDs, which was offered as part of the UICC Master Course programme. The course, Effective partnership management in addressing the challenges of cancer, ran from June to October 2016, and aimed to introduce participants to cross-sector partnering concepts and processes within the context of the fight against cancer. In addition to theoretical coursework and developing case studies, the training included monthly webinars, a forum for participants to exchange ideas and experiences.

urse culminated in a 1-day workshop on the 31st October, at the 24th World Cancer Congress in Paris, the leading international conference for the global cancer control community, held every two years and organised by the UICC. The workshop brought together the 28 course participants, from various UICC member organisations, to consolidate their learning and focus on the specific skillset required for partnering across sectors.
