The 2022 ECOSOC Partnership Forum will be held on 2 February 2022 on “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.
TPI is playing a very active role in the Forum: working with our partners, UN DESA, to convene two plenary ‘Partnership Exchange’ sessions; running a side event with the 2030 Agenda Partnership Accelerator and Partnerships 2030; and launching a specially-recorded podcast, the first in a series on Partnership Pioneers.

SIDE EVENT: From COVID-19 to climate change: How can we turbo-charge collaboration to build forward at speed?

COVID-19 has stimulated countless innovative collaborations – from the most local level (such as community groups partnering with shops to fill food banks) to the global (such as FCDO and Unilever’s £100M collaboration on handwashing). These new partnerships have moved rapidly through, or completely bypassed, ‘normal’ partnering processes. What can we learn from rapid partnerships convened during the pandemic and how can this be applied to support those working on climate action partnerships and connected fields?
This event is hosted by the global partnering specialist NGO The Partnering Initiative (TPI) with Partnerships 2030 (a project hosted at GIZ and commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and the 2030 Agenda Partnership Accelerator. TPI will share emerging insights from the Rapid Partnering for Climate Action programme, which is developing accelerated partnership protocols to support climate action practitioners and their partners in related fields to initiate, implement and iterate climate action partnerships far faster.
TPI Executive Director, Darian Stibbe will moderate the session. Speakers include Climate Transition Director, Jenny Ekelund, Susanne Salz from Partnerships 2030, Zainab Aliyu from Climate2025 and Yukiko Yamada Morovic from World Vision.
PARTNERSHIP EXCHANGE: Experiences from partnering during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of enhancing global collaboration and effective partnerships among all sectors and stakeholders. Multi-stakeholder collaborations are key mechanisms to tackle the challenges of COVID-19 and will be essential as societies look to build more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive societies. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the international community has made significant efforts to mobilize partnerships to accelerate the global response to COVID-19.
The session will feature speakers that can share their first-hand experience and lessons learned in building and managing partnerships during the pandemic and how these could be of use when tackling other urgent global challenges such as climate change.
The session will feature a keynote address from David Nabarro, Former Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change and WHO Special Envoy on COVID-19 Preparedness and Response. On the panel, Jenny Ekelund, TPI Director of Climate Transition, will be joined by Sanda Ojiambo, Executive Director of the Global Compact.

PARTNERSHIP EXCHANGE: Fostering an enabling environment for collaboration

Fostering effective partnerships among a variety of stakeholders and sectors requires an enabling environment that is supportive of collaboration.
This session will discuss and explore the policies that are needed to support multi-stakeholder partnerships, how to build capacities of stakeholders around partnering practices, how to support organizational change required to partner effectively, while also hearing from UN Resident Coordinator offices about examples and good practices related to partnership platforms as mechanisms for brokering and catalyzing new partnerships for SDG implementation.
The session will be moderated by TPI Executive Director, Darian Stibbe, and features Susanne Salz, Garry Conille, Josephine Satyono, Mark Lewis, Kofi Kankam and Giovanna Kuele.
