The Building Forward Better Framework for closer collaboration with the mining sector has launched!

Working in collaboration with the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and Business Fights Poverty (BFP), we are delighted to announce the Building Forward Better Framework. The Framework sets out dozens of practical examples of how leading companies in the mining industry are responding to COVID-19; and provides ideas for how mining companies and potential partners may collaborate in a long-term response to the ongoing pandemic.

Responsible, large mining companies bring a formidable array of resources, assets and experience to make progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals; yet the risks of engaging with the mining sector are often seen by external stakeholders as too significant to explore collaborative approaches.

As we continue to grapple with the health, humanitarian and economic impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, mining companies are demonstrating their ability to partner with others to help protect people’s lives and their health and safety, support people’s livelihoods and economic resilience, and provide opportunities for people’s ongoing learning, training and skills development.” Jane Nelson, Director of the Corporate Responsibility Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School.

At TPI we will be working with our partners at ICMM and BFP on an ongoing basis to further develop and explore the ideas and actions set out in this Framework. For those who have been less engaged in working with the mining industry, or with the private sector in general, we would strongly welcome your engagement on the ideas and examples set out in this report.

If you would like to get involved or if you would like to have a free online self-assessment of the degree to which your organisation is “Fit for Partnering”, please contact info@tpiglobal.org.
