Partnerships for Education

Global Partnerships

Building the foundations of a green, prosperous and equitable global economy.

In partnership with UNESCO, the World Bank and with support from BG Group, the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) has conducted research into harnessing the power of business as a way of improving the quality of education provision.

Education is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development and underpins all of our efforts for enduring prosperity and economic growth. Yet, achieving quality ‘Education for All’ remains a major global challenge. There is also a quality level challenge, and businesses throughout the world are finding themselves struggling to recruit staff with the right skills necessary to thrive and prosper.

A new report launched at Rio+20, ‘Partnerships for Education: Building the foundations of a green, prosperous and equitable global economy’ highlights that only by leveraging the power and resources of all sectors of society – government, business and civil society – can we hope to achieve the scale and quality necessary to meet it.

Currently there are many examples of positive business involvement in education initiatives. This programme examines what it will take to scale these up, and create a systematic approach for quality partnerships for education in order to ensure the future we want. The report is based on the resulting discussions and feedback received.

The report aims to:

  • Understand the drivers for business engagement in education and the types of intervention that are currently in place
  • Promote the role of cross-sector partnerships in expanding access to quality education, with a particular focus on the role of the private sector in partnerships with government and NGOs
  • Understand how such partnerships can be set up and evaluated in order to ensure accountability, accessibility, equity and quality
  • Develop a framework to strengthen the quality of collaborations for education and the learning they provide’

The working draft has now been finalised and the full version of the report is available to download below, with an executive summary also available.
