TPI supports the UN & Australia Sustainable Partnerships Forum

On 20 April 2021, Australia’s major SDG event for the year, the Sustainable Partnerships Forum, was opened by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed & Lucy Stronach, 2021 Australian Youth rep to the UN.

Opening keynote speakers included Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Foreign Minister Senator Marise Payne, Monash University President/Vice-Chancellor Margaret Gardner and Global Citizen Australia Director Sarah Meredith.

TPI was proud to participate in the Forum across two key sessions:

  • TPI Associate, Victoria Thom led a practical and interactive session based on global emergent practice in multi-stakeholder partnering for impact – ‘Are You Fit for Partnering?‘. From her experience, Victoria says, “Perhaps most critically was the intent of the group to recognise the power dynamics in partnerships and the need for everyone to have a voice. Our incredible guest speaker Donella Mills (Chair, NACCHO Australia) spoke about what it means to shift power to communities and address race and racism in and through our partnerships.”
  • Our Executive Director, Darian Stibbe, moderated a panel discussion on partnering with the UN – ‘an international perspective‘ – panellists were Simona Marinescu, UN resident coordinator for Samoa; Dr Angela Pratt, WHO; Jacyl Shaw, GHD Digital D-Lab; and Andrew Peterson of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia.

A key outcome of the Forum was the “Manifesto for Partnering for the Sustainable Development Goals“, co-created by participants of the Forum and facilitated by Victoria Thom.

Recordings of the relevant sessions will be shared here when available.
