Partnerships for Education: Building the foundations of a green, prosperous and equitable global economy.
In partnership with UNESCO, the World Bank and with support from BG Group, the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) has conducted research into harnessing the power of business as a way of improving the quality of education provision.
Titled ‘Partnerships for Education: Building the foundations of a green, prosperous and equitable global economy’, the working draft of this report was launched at a Rio+20 side event on 20 June 2012.
Education underpins societies and has a central role to play in realising the vision of a sustainable future. And yet, most governments do not have sufficient resources to provide the education their people need.
Darian Stibbe, Director of The Partnering Initiative and IBLF stated: “Education is the key to development and prosperity and the main source of knowledge that is needed by all to lead productive and fulfilling lives. It is also essential for countries to compete in local and international markets and to drive sustainable economic growth”.
The aims of the research and subsequent report are to:
- Understand the drivers for business engagement in education and the types of intervention that are currently in place
- Promote the role of cross-sector partnerships in expanding access to quality education, with a particular focus on the role of the private sector in partnerships with government and NGOs
- Understand how such partnerships can be set up and evaluated in order to ensure accountability, accessibility, equity and quality
- Develop a framework to strengthen the quality of collaborations for education and the learning they provide
